How are you doing truckers? How is the week treating you? Well, we hope everything is moving smooth at your end. Today, at our blog space, we are going to discuss about the payment methods you can choose to pay your tax form 2290.

Before we proceed with the topic, we would like to remind you about the due date for filing your prorated tax through form 2290. If you have taken your vehicle out in the month of October for the first time, you are liable to file and pay taxes for by the end of November. If you fail to do so, you are liable to pay penalties and interest for the same.

Now get back to the topic, the first method is:

Direct Debit/ Electronic Funds Withdrawal:

This method is the first and trusted method when you decide to file and pay your taxes online. This method seems to be very handy and easy to use. You need to provide IRS with the required information while submitting form 2290 return online and the tax due would be eventually debited from your account. Also, do remember, if you are choosing this method, you hold the responsibility to maintain sufficient funds in your bank for paying your dues. To revoke the payment, you can get in touch with U.S. Treasury Financial Agent at 1-888-353-4537 no later than 2 business days before the settlement date.

EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System):

This constitutes the next method for paying your dues online. This method is popularity known as EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System). If you are choosing this method to pay your dues online, you hold the responsibility to schedule a payment on your own and take up the responsibility to pay taxes on time.

To create an account or manage it, visit eftps.gov or call 1-800-555-4477. The transaction should be initiated at least one business day before the due date.

Check or Money Order:

If there are scenarios, where you are not comfortable paying your dues online, you can choose for check or money order as the method of paying your dues to IRS. The tax payment has to be scheduled on or before the due date. Print the completed payment voucher 2290-V and mail it to IRS.

You can prepare your tax return online and pay your dues through check or money order.

Note: You are not allowed to pay your tax in the form of cash. The check or money order should be payable to United States Treasury. Add details like name, address, EIN, “Form 2290,” and the date (as entered in Box 3) on your payment. Detach the payment voucher 2290-V and send across the payment. If you choose to file it electronically (e filing), form 2290 and schedule-1 copy with the payment voucher is not required. Stapling the payment to the voucher or form 2290 should be avoided.
