Taxpayers have a few more hours today to efile Form 2290 in 2019 before the Labor Day Downtime

Taxpayers who must file Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return, have more time to do so this year. That said, the deadline will be here before they know it. Taxpayers must file their 2019 Form 2290 by Tuesday, September 3. Normally, the due date is August 31. However, this year the weekend and a federal holiday extended the 2019 date.

IRS Scheduled Maintenance Downtime this Labor Day Long Weekend affects your 2290 efiling

IRS will be conducting its annual Labor Day power outage beginning Saturday, August 31, 2019, starting at 9:00 p.m. and ending Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at 7:00 a.m. EST. This scheduled maintenance drive will affect processing 2290 returns which is heading towards deadline. However on September 3, 2019 the final day to report and pay the Federal Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290 will be available from morning 7:00 am. We’re working and operational to accept the returns from the Truckers, hold that in our servers and get it processed with the IRS when they are back and operations from Sep. 3rd.

IRS Truck Tax Form 2290 referred as Federal Highway Vehicle Use Tax returns are filed from July to August for a Tax Year started on July 2019 – June 2020. All the heavy highway vehicles with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds falls due for this 2290 filing. Form 2290 and Schedule 1 has to be reported and paid to receive back the watermarked Schedule 1 receipt to show as a proof of payment.

Quick update on Form 2290 filing for tax year 2019

This time of the year, the federal vehicle use taxes on a heavy highway falls due and has to be renewed with the IRS by filing Form 2290 and Schedule 1. The taxes are paid in full and it is an annual tax valid from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2019. Every highway vehicle that weights 55,000 pounds or more automatically falls due for this 2290 taxes, irrespective of the earlier filing period and month.

Reporting Period:

Form 2290 and Schedule 1 is reported between July 1, 2019 to August 31, 2019; for the tax year July 2019 – June 2020. However for this year, August 31 falls on a weekend and the next business day, September 3, 2019 is the new due date. The day next to Labor Day. Less time left for paper work, try electronic filing for faster processing and issuing you back the IRS watermarked Schedule 1 proof of payment.
