Truckers!! Take Extra Precaution as the Coronavirus (Covid-19) Outbreak Grows

Being in the Trucking business means drivers will need to travel nationwide and transport goods and services mostly shipped from overseas. This makes them the most vulnerable to come in contact with the corona Virus. And this for instance not only has an adverse effect on Global population but also affects businesses and services, as per recent reports the COVID – 19 Virus has gradually also started effecting the trucking sector in various states around the US.

The American economy completely depends on imports of certain products such as Raw Materials, Machinery, Bi products, Mineral fuels including oil from other countries, this widespread has affected almost every industry – air travel and tourism, manufacturing, and now the trucking industry as well. As of now, there are certain restrictions implied on imports which in turn will disrupt the transport supply chain and the use of vehicles that serve this purpose.

Social distancing doesn’t work if you’re a trucker. Here are a few precautionary steps that you can follow while on the road.

Regularly Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place.

If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Do also try to stock up if you do expect to be behind the wheel for a few days. Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces. This includes seats, doorknobs, light switches, steering wheels, handles, phones, or any day to day object that is frequently used in and around your home or vehicle.

You should wear a facemask when you are sick or around other people (e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office. In case if you are not able to wear one due to breathing issues do try your best to cover cough or sneezes. Facemasks may be in short supply and they should be saved for caregivers.

Truck drivers aren’t in close contact to others for most of the day, however their job does require for them to travel and depend on truck stops for a shower or a meal or two. In this case they will have to completely depend on truck stop workers to ensure their shower booths and meals are up to standards being clean and hygiene. Carrying hand sanitizers and wet wipes is advisable.

Though this outbreak is in every country right now, recently revealed data shows that the number of daily cases is slowly decreasing and with the mortality rate of just north of 3% it is highly possible that in the forth-coming months this outbreak can and will be contained just like all the other viruses we have seen by far.

Prevention is better than cure.
