When a new vehicle is put into service, HVUT Form 2290 must be filed by the last day of the following month. If a vehicle was used during any part of a month, the tax will be calculated for that month as a whole. For example, if a vehicle was used on August 15th, it will be taxed as though it was used the entire month. If you first placed your vehicle on the road anytime in August, you must E-file your Form 2290 anytime between now and September 30th, 2018. Form 2290 Is Due Tomorrow, For Vehicles first Used in April!
HVUT is the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax that is a fee assessed annually on heavy vehicles operating on public highways at registered gross weights equal to or exceeding 55,000 pounds. The gross taxable weight of a vehicle is determined by adding the weight of the Truck, Trailer and load.
