Truck Drivers spend countless hours perfecting their talent. They just don’t pass tests, get licensed, pick up a load, and travel hundreds of miles to expect immediate perfection. They understand that they will make many errors as they learn, but they start with the basics, the key fundamentals first. Having all the required documents and paperwork is the most basic foundation every driver must enhance. Amongst their busy schedule, the necessity to file on time and stay compliant with the IRS has always been a big hurdle.
Being the only decade old provider and through expertise gained over the years, we at TaxExcise.com have always strived to perfect and simplify the process of filing the HVUT Form 2290. Every year we tend to bring out new features based on customer feedback and ever-changing market conditions. Let us take you through a few features that most users are not aware of, and help you understand how to overcome these situations with ease.
In an era when smartphones
and tablets have taken over, filing tax returns through paper is slowly going
extinct and completing tax returns online is the need of the hour as it is
easier, precise and efficient. The less complicated your tax return is, the
more rudimentary is the preparation for it.
The slight panicky feeling that happens when deadlines approach and start to accumulate is every tax payer’s worst nightmare. These tax deadlines happen once every year or every quarter and failure to address them results in penalties and interest from Uncle Sam.
It’s time now to put on your
thinking hat and have these tax returns completed in order to stay compliant
with the IRS. A Few Tax forms that are Due this month would namely be:-
Form 2290: The Federal
Excise Tax Form 2290 also known as Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) is due for renewal
for the current 2020 tax year. And the deadline to report any new Vehicles first
used in the month of June is due by July31st.
IFTA: International Fuel Tax Agreement is due by July 31st for the second quarter of 2020.
Form 720 is filed by businesses that deal with the sale of certain goods and services. These businesses are required to pay extra taxes, known as “Excise Taxes”. This Federal excise tax has four quarters for a calendar year and the deadline for each quarter is last day of the following month i.e, by April 30 for the first quarter, by July 31 for the second quarter, by October 31 for the third quarter and by January 31 for the final quarter. The first quarter of 2020 (for the months Jan, Feb and Mar) is due by April 30. And Even if you are not liable for excise taxes during any of the quarters of the year, you must send in Form 720 according to the due dates.
Due to the ongoing situation many businesses and essential services are closed and do not have any Excise tax to report. Though they have no sale to report they will still need to file out a Form 720 by reporting a Zero Return (Zero Tax Liability).
A zero return substantially means that no sale or
business operations were conducted during that quarter. And Having Form 720
completed essentially allows the business to stay compliant with the existing
norms and guidelines listed by the IRS.
Away from your desk, currently working from home,
and is the tax deadline crunch getting to you, Look No Further !!

Our heroes never fail to amaze us. If they stop the world stops. Truck drivers brave the new outbreak to deliver goods and services around the country. Though most of the highways are shut down deliveries of groceries and basic supplies have hit an all-time high, with shoppers piling up on supplies. Truckers are working flat-out to keep stores and businesses stocked as consumers worry about riding out home quarantines. Trucking companies are running full throttle to keep up with supply which means as always drivers are needed to stay on the road.
Our greatest strength is our Truckers, we take this moment in appreciating all the efforts taken risking amidst the COVID-19 in delivering the goods/ commodities for the common pubic by staying safe and driving safe, THANK YOU.
We also like to keep you posted that the regular deadline for filing Federal Income Tax Returns has been extended three months, the new deadline to file income tax extension is July 15, 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, there has been no confirmation on the HVUT Form 2290 filing and tax payment deadline extensions, or for the quarterly federal excise tax form 720 and IFTA. Be safe out there dear truckers while you deliver us the life’s necessities!
Being in the Trucking business means drivers will need to travel nationwide and transport goods and services mostly shipped from overseas. This makes them the most vulnerable to come in contact with the corona Virus. And this for instance not only has an adverse effect on Global population but also affects businesses and services, as per recent reports the COVID – 19 Virus has gradually also started effecting the trucking sector in various states around the US.
