Pre-File Your HVUT Form 2290 for Tax Year 2018 – 2019 NOW!

Alright Trucking Community, its June and it is that time of the Year when you have to gear up and Pre-File Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) Form 2290 for your Heavy Trucks. It is a well-known Fact that Any Vehicle with a gross weight of 55,000 Lbs or above must have a Form 2290 filed for it every year. The Tax Year for the HVUT Form 2290 begins in July and ends in June of the Following Year.

Unlike other Taxes that is filed after the End of the Tax Years Completion, HVUT is always filed in Advance. So the for the Upcoming Tax Year 2018- 2019 one must File the HVUT on or before the end of August. You may refer to the Schedule 1 copy you have for your Heavy Rigs, those would be expiring by the End of June. Form 2290 Is Due Tomorrow, For Vehicles first Used in April!

HVUT is the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax that is a fee assessed annually on heavy vehicles operating on public highways at registered gross weights equal to or exceeding 55,000 pounds. The gross taxable weight of a vehicle is determined by adding the weight of the Truck, Trailer and load.

Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes must be filed using the Form 2290 Annually. The Tax period for Heavy Vehicles begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th of the following year. The annual renewal of your Form 2290 for a new tax period IS DUE BY August 31st each year.  Continue reading →

E-file HVUT Form 2290, before IRS Memorial Day Systems Shutdown!

Every Year Last Monday of May is observed as Memorial Day and it is a Federal Holiday in the remembrance of citizen’s who sacrificed their lives serving in the nation’s Armed Forces.  Very often people get confused between Memorial Day & Veteran’s Day Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.

Like Every Year the IRS Servers will be shut down for Memorial Day & the IRS will not be working during this Shut down period.  The IRS Systems will be down beginning Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. and ending on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 6:00 a.m. During this time No tax payer can receive any sort of acknowledgement for their E-filed Tax forms. You read that right, those who think that Form 2290’s is due only in the month of July & August are absolutely wrong. It’s partially true that the Form 2290 is due in the month of July & August; it has to be renewed every year in those months for vehicles that are in service in the month of July.

Form 2290: Reasons for Rejection!

Reasons and circumstances may vary but what makes you a great human being is how you react when you face a rejection. First and foremost accept the fact that what you tired did not work and you have a temporary setback.  If rejected the next thing you should analyze is the reason for rejection, once you identified the reason for rejection try correcting it at the earliest possible. E-filing Federal Excise Tax Form 2290 is no exception to the thumb rule that, if furnished information does not meet the requirement then it leads to rejection.
